The authors did an awesome job of teaching the material

Recently I took a college class that used this book as its textbook. The authors did an awesome job of teaching the material. I learned a lot of valuable information which can be applied toward working with young children. However, the text is full of many typos. . The editors did a poor job on this edition. A college level textbook should not have an excessive amount of errors. It should be recalled and revised before any other student pays the high price for this text. I Gave a copy of this letter with a list of the many typos that I noticed to the math department at SPSCC in Olympia, WA suggesting they don't use this book for the students (until it is re-edited). Hoping for donations, Anthony, 15, sings and plays his guitar in New York City's Central Park. He is outshone one summer day by Kelly, a 16-year-old with a remarkable voice. They ultimately team up and begin dating, although Kelly, who claims she's as impoverished as Anthony and his divorced, alcoholic mother, warns of her imminent move to San Francisco. Gradually, the girl tells about her former drug addiction and her contentious relationship with her wealthy parents. After meeting the snobbish couple, Anthony understands Kelly's need to escape. Readers, though, may be less sympathetic; Kelly's past promiscuity, drug arrests and runaway attempts have thoroughly exasperated her parents. She distributes food to the indigent and sees their plight firsthand, but the girl's general contempt for the privileged life renders her ungrateful. Levoy's misguided solution to Kelly's problems seems irresponsible. His dialogue, while natural, contains some profanity. Also, Anthony's breezy narrative grows turbulent in this presentation of two contrasting yet equally unhappy families. Ages 12-up.

Grade 8-10-- Anthony Milano, struggling to earn money to help his mother pay for their necessities, meets Kelly, a girl who is also playing a guitar and singing outside the Central Park Zoo in New York City. They team up professionally and personally, quickly becoming close enough to share secrets. Anthony's problems are obvious (shy, low self-esteem, his mother drinks too much.) But Kelly is clearly more deeply troubled. She gives all of her earnings away to homeless people; lies about her identity; and eventually reveals that her family is wealthy, that she hates them, and that she wants to run away while they are in Europe. Stunned when her parents are about to make an early return, Kelly convinces herself to face them. She makes a botched attempt to convey her feelings, however, and is determined to leave. Ever thoughtful and loyal to both his mother and Kelly, Anthony is suddenly forced to choose between them. As quickly as things seem to happen in this story, the characters develop slowly and credibly. Best LIBRARY Book I ever picked up

This book is really good, I read the out of date version, cause thats all we basically have at our lousy school library. Anyway, this book portrays of a teenage girl who doesnt tell the truth of her life to a poor boy she falls in love with in Central Park while singing for the tourists to make money. I read this book in 2 days, and when I returned it the librarian said "was this a good book?" and i said it waz excelent and she said "well ok, i guess ill read it now too!". Ever since i returned it, i keep thinking bout it! I wish there was a sequel!!

High level overview of the job responsibilities of a DBA

This book is a high level overview of the job responsibilities of a DBA. A DBA may work on many different tasks with an organizations data and have many different responsibilities across organizations. This book covers everything that you might be asked to do as a DBA, where ever you may be working. The book is vendor independent which is nice because that gives you an understanding of concepts and work flow that are not tied to a specific product. Craig S. Mullins tells us that the book can be a class text book or a reference book or a guide book for educating management as to the job role of a DBA. There are also many other books referenced throughout the book which offers direction to readers, should you want a more in depth understanding of a concept. So as an introductory text on the job of a DBA this book will fit the bill, but remember it is a high over view of the responsibilities of a DBA so you will have to augment this text with others and with product specific information/ texts. Either way as a student of Library and Information Science I am very pleased with the book. It's also easy to read if you take a mature approach to studying, very clear text and layout, no color pictures, thin paper so be careful with turning pages and drinks that might spill! I just got the book, it was just published, so I have not read much, but flipping through it I can tell that the reader will get a very good foundational understanding of what a DBA does. And wouldn't you know that is what kind of book I was looking for.

I use this book ( 1st edition for last 2 years and 2nd edition just a month ago) for my Undergraduate ( BSc in IT ) and Masters , MSC in ISM , program. An excellent book to be used as a Text book for any Computer science Database Administration Courses.

In the second Edition , which took nearly 10 years from the 1st edition,
includes an entirely new chapter on the DBA's role in regulatory compliance.

This is new stuff , for last 10 years... which covers new material on data breaches, auditing, encryption, retention, and metadata management.
But , the old edition a still a good Text fo any DBA , courses..

An excellent practical tool.

This book is an excellent practical tool to gain understanding on how the Production Sharing Contracts/ Agreements of the international oil industry work and how the negotiations on PSA normally flow. Johnston does not concentrate on cultural aspects of a particular country, but rather on the mechanics of the PSA and its major issues. The topics that Johnston covers are "Petroleum Fiscal Systems," "Concessionary Systems," "Production Sharing Contracts," "Risk Service Contracts," "Threshold Field Size Analysis," "Global Market for Exploration Acreage," "Production Sharing Contract Outline" "Accounting Principles," and "Double Taxation." This introductory comprehensive overview of PSA concepts is written in a clear and understandable manner so that even a person without a background in accounting, taxation, and oil engineering is able to understand the author's explanations and conclusions. This source will be most helpful to consult if one is interested in learning or simply clarifying the concepts of exploration economics, oil taxation, contract/fiscal terms, and PSA negotiations in the international context.

Essential reading for anyone interested in the oil industry and resource economics

I first read this book in 1996 and consider it to be the most useful book I have ever read on the oil industry. If you want to understand the basics of resource economics, risk sharing and rent sharing (taxes vs profits), no book will serve you better.
Don't be put off by the fact that the book was published in 1994 (and as far as I can tell, has not been updated since). This is a book about core principcles that works as well in a $100/bbl as a $10/bbl world.

The eleven essays in this groundbreaking volume seek to redress this imbalance. Examining recent performances through the lenses of feminism, queer theory, and cultural materialism, they situate cross-dressed Shakespeare in the context of current critical debates over the social construction of gender, the radical contingency of sexual desire, and differences among various forms and functions in transvestism. Essays discuss representative British and North American productions some celebrated (Mabou Mines' Lear, the Globe's Twelfth Night), others little-known (Merchant in a women's prison).
The past two decades have seen unprecedented growth in the cross-gender casting of Shakespeare's plays men playing women, women playing men, and both playing roles regendered for the opposite sex. Such casting has been fueled by a revolution in the way spectators view gender in Western societies. Influenced by the same cultural forces that gave rise to feminism and queer theory, contemporary Shakespeare performances have foregrounded the artifice of gender construction and challenged audiences to question conventional beliefs about the nature of sexual desire, sexual orientation, and gendered behavior.
