Worth the wait!

I have been waiting for this for months and months. I am sure I am not the only one. I was plensently surprised to find that the charaters in this book were not at all what I expected. LOVED IT ALL!!! No back to the waiting. I will definately be on the lookout for the next one!

Such a great gift for honeymooners!

My husband and I purchased these ( both Do you know your groom & Do you know your bride) shortly after getting married. They were entertaining and left us feeling informed and good that we knew so much about each other. We giggled a lot...well my husband chortled and I giggled :). Since then we have purchase several sets of these for couples as wedding gifts. They are the perfect activity for that plane ride to a honeymoon destination.

I received this as a gift and couldn't wait to get home and try it out on my fiancé. It was a lot of fun! Even after six years of dating, some of these questions I didn't know, they're so out there. But it was great. We laughed a lot and playfully argued over partial credit. I just ordered Do You Know Your Bride-it's his turn!

The second edition of Charles Kirkpatrick's (2011) Technical Analysis: The Complete Resource For Financial Market Technicians is as good as (or even better) than the Fidelity Technical Analyst stated. I went to another Fidelity training session and this book was presented as the best single technical analysis book currently available. The writing style was clear and was accessible to the "intelligent layman." On a scale of ten I give this book a "ten" and I have never previously given a book such a high rating.

Important reading even for mid-term and long-term investor

I begin my investment by using the value investing approach. "Securities Analysis" and "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham are excellent books on value investing. They taught me how to pick stock based on fundamental analysis and give me great advice on investment - be patient, look for great business with great management, insist on margin of safety, future value is a function of present price, sell to optimists and buy from pessimists. I did make good profits by following Benjamin's advice. However, very often I buy too early when the stock price is falling and I sell too early when the stock price is rising. I can do much better if I had read this book. This book tells me how to measure market strength, why trend analysis is important, when to buy and when to sell by using various indicators, oscillators and patterns, how to confirm signal with volume. Now I can enter and exit a position with more confidence and most importantly, I make more money than before and loss less. I even allocate a portion of money specifically for short-term trading. I highly recommend this book to traders and value investors. Besides, "How to make money in stocks" by William J. O'Neil is a good companion to this book. William's book introduces his CAN SLIM method to pick stock and shows a lot more real life examples of patterns.
After the economic crisis in 2008, I think trend analysis becomes more important in investment as the market fluctuation is more frequent and violent and causes the buy-and-hold strategy less effective. I still use the value investing approach to pick stocks, but I need to act like a trader at the entry point and exit point to improve my profit margin.

KINDLE version is GARBAGE!

I bought the e-book version of this text and all of the figures and charts are completely illegible on the Kindle app for the iPad. The importance of understanding the figures presented on this complex topic can not be understated. I was completely frustrated by the low resolution (aka "fuzziness") of the figures. The resolution of most figures is so poor that most of the book's figures are worthless. The text itself is wonderfully written, so I can not begin to express my frustration with the figures and charts. How can they sell this text as an e-book? Its completely unacceptable! Save yourself the frustration and skip the Kindle version of this text.

Want to age beautifully, and live longer and healthier?

This is a good book that guides you to ubderstand a basic ideas of what Sirtfood is. It also gives a good diet menus. I highly recommend someone who wants to live longer and healthier, and you will be beautiful inside and outside by Sirtfood. Since I did try Sirtfood in everyday meal, I never get hungry. Sirtfood suppresses my appetite even I eat normal amount!!!

A valuable collection of insight and wisdom from past generations of Americans.

I used to listen to my grandfather tell stories of how life was when he was growing up. The experiences he shared and wisdom he gained by living throughout those days, have stayed with me all my life. In a similar manner, Droughts and Dreams gives the chance to hear the stories of families who lived through The Great Depression in all corners of the country. It is very interesting to read how different regions dealt with the depression in different ways. Also, realizing how important a family's ability to be self-reliant was in how their depression experience affected them was an eye-opener.
It is important to read stories of those who lived through the Depression era as their numbers are ever dwindling and soon their insight and words of wisdom will be gone with them. I encourage folks to read these stories, ask older family members about their own experiences or those of their parents and grandparents as the memories will fade away someday. Stories are a way to preserve the past and continue learning from generations past. Droughts and Dreams is a valuable collection of accounts from the greatest generation who persevered and prevailed one of the darkest times in American history.

This book is hard to put down!
It's a collection of memoirs by people who lived through the Great Depression. Preppers and history buffs alike will enjoy it. You can read it first to last, or skip around reading chapters at random.
These are the stories of how people ingeniously made do with what they had when they had nothing. Some were able to grow their food. Some worked what little work there was to be had.
People went hungry, and lost their homes and businesses. Many led nomadic lifestyles (sometimes via horse and wagon!), because they were looking for something better. But somehow they survived through tragedies and triumphs.
Interspersed throughout the book are photographs of the era, recipes and home remedies.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to get some real life glimpses into that dark time in American history.

Excellent read that gave me a renewed energy to learn more skills!

After reading Droughts and Dreams I have a renewed energy for prepping and learning self sufficient skills. This is a good reminder of why I need to keep on keeping on with what I am doing and to not grow weary. The younger generation would benefit greatly from reading and hearing these stories of what times were really like. In this age of everything being instant and electronic the younger generation has completely lost sight of what it is like to grow and provide their own food. I will be adding this book into my children's reading selection this school year so they can have more understanding for why we do the things we do to learn skills and be debt free.

Must-get for any Tolkien fan!

Yes, Tolkien wasn't a professional artist, but his art for the Hobbit really works on many levels, and gives the reader a better idea of what Tolkien had in his fertile and amazing imagination when writing The Hobbit.

Much of the art here has never been seen before. Most versions of the Hobbit have no more than a score of Tolkien's illustrations, if that. A lot of this art was recently discovered among the Master's papers, and now has been digitally scanned and included for your viewing pleasure. (Interesting how few books the Professor wrote but how much background stuff he came up with while writing them, eh?).

True, in some cases, we have several versions of the same scene- several preliminary and then the finished piece. But I think that adds to how Tolkien was developing the scenes in his mind while writing.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL book :). Containing over a 100 never-before-seen illustrations by Tolkeins himself, this was a magical journey into the world created by Tolkeins that I'd imagined as a kid - and it was almost exactly how I'd imagined it based on his descriptions.

This chronological history analyzes animated film as an autonomous art form that has nevertheless been affected by the economics of live-action cinema as well as social and political forces (e.g., the dislocation of Continental Europe's animators by World War II). Although animation has finally begun to be thought worthy of serious attention, the spate of books on it in recent years has focused primarily on commercial Hollywood animation. Bendazzi ambitiously attempts to fill the gap. He covers more than a century's worth of animation, from the 1888 th{‚}e{ƒ}atre optique (a device for projecting moving painted images that predates motion picture pioneers Edison and Lumi{Š}ere) to today's cutting edge computer-animation technology. He covers American animation, of course, but also describes developments in more than 70 other countries, in many of which animation emerged more as an art form than a box office draw. His work is not without shortcomings: the writing (the translation, anyway) is occasionally awkward, and despite or because of its exhaustive depth and scholarly approach, the text seldom conveys the delightfulness that makes the best cartoons so compelling. Great Documentation of Artistic Animation. Not your average animation history book.

It's clear that the author derives the majority of his references from Europe's history of Animation, which might explain why many people have not heard of the animators he talks about. But considering that these artists did take part in the history behind animation, it is good that Bendazzi made the effort to bring their names to light. He makes some remarks and does look at other countries, such as America's infamous Walt Disney and Japan's rising anime films, but for the most part, he concentrates on the growth within Europe's artistic groups.

This book is less about the big names in cinematic animation and more about the independent artists and studios who worked in animation during a time when the animator's names and the dates their works were created weren't exactly recorded and copyrighted properly. Many of the animators here can also be identified as fine artists, often working experimentally within the media. This is how animation as cinema started (way before the time of Walt Disney and his overshadowing fame) and is continuing to be produced on the other side of Hollywood.

This book definitely has a text-book feel, but as far as a text book goes, it's not too terribly dry. It's informative and gives a very in-depth look at animation, from its beginning as optical illusions to the cinematic phenomena it has become today.

Also, as a final personal comment, this book is like a documentation of the independent films (as well as mainstream films) of the animation industry. Most people will not have seen them (unless they have access to an animation/video library), but that doesn't mean the films aren't important to history.

Better with some revisions.

As a brazilian animator I tried to start to read this book by the Latin american section, and comprehensively, by the one that shows the status of animation in my country, Brazil, a reality that I know very well.I don't know where Mr. Bendazzi got his informations for this part of the book.What I know is that it's full of strange or, at least unknown names of people for most of the brazilian animators, illustrators figuring as animators, besides the absence of five or six of the really most important animators in my country.Because of all that,I'm affraid the rest of the book, at least in those sections telling about the animation in Latin America still needs to be revised.

A excellent resource

I love and I am actually studying animation, and this book is excellent and very interesting, not only for us the animators, but for everyone who likes history. My mother was an professor of History, tells me how interesting is this book every time she takes a look. The book has a enormous resource about the animation, since the first toys that made animation in our eyes while moving it, until actual animation. I admire all those who made animation, because for a short or long animation, of whichever method, we need to be crazy enough to be able to make one! I recommend it to everyone, this book is not only made for studying, it is also entertaining, until the point that I want to carry it everywhere I go and take a little read each time.
