Good effort

It is a good effort but there are many small problems found throughout the book. These problems are mainly in how the author defines various forms of research and tends to confuse the concepts of validity and reliability at times. Some of the main studies cited as examples are not described correctly which makes this reader wonder if the author read each study entirely. There are some important art therapy studies missing, from 2000 to 2009 also and anyone who uses this book should supplement the text with these articles.
I still recommend reading this book as there is very little out there that covers this topic. Good for graduate students who are involved in the basics of research studies.

No longer overwhelmed

When I sat down to my Thesis Proposal course for my MAAT degree, I was overwhelmed! I am "an art therapist to be" not a researcher- my tools are brushes, paints, pencils, photos, images, clay... NOT a proposal of 40+ pages. After the first assignment using Dr. Kapitan's book, I was excited to know I COULD write a thesis. An Introduction to Art Therapy Research is written in a positive approach, broken down into manageable sections and easy to find specific information. I am very happy and relieved that this was the text my professors chose for the course. Thank you Dr. Kapitan!

This book isn't as dry as you'd expect and gives a lot of important information for anyone wanting to dive into art therapy research.
