Secondary recovery techniques to the field's productive life generally by injecting water or gas to displace oil and drive it to a production wellbore, resulting in the recovery of 20 to 40 percent of the original oil in place.

In the past two decades, major oil companies and research organizations have conducted extensive theoretical and laboratory EOR (enhanced oil recovery) researches, to include validating pilot and field trials relevant to much needed domestic commercial application, while western countries had terminated such endeavours almost completely due to low oil prices. This book brings the most recent developments in the field to the reader an melds this with the past history and academic research in the field. It contains an extremely large amount of useful and practical information, presented in an easy to read and understand format. The book covers all aspects of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and contains a wealth of tables, charts and actual field experience. The author's insight into many controversial issues such as scaling and adsorption and Alkaline Surfactant Polymer Flooding versus Surfactant Polymer Flooding are refreshing and sharp. I would recommend this book to anyone involved in EOR from the student level to the seasoned veteran.
